Council unanimously greenlights plan to consult migrant workers in the city's active transportation master plan.
The City of St. Catharines is looking to improve road safety for migrant workers following a deadly collision earlier this month.
35 year old Fermin Santo Sanchez died, and two others were injured after being hit by an SUV on Seventh Street Louth on June 13th.
The trio were walking bikes along the side of the road near a farm where they all worked.
City council has passed a motion put forth by councilor Karrie Porter, asking that migrant workers be consulted on the city's upcoming Active Transportation Master Plan.
The plan, which starts this summer, will examine cycling infrastructure in detail, as well as address consultation barriers such as language and work hours.
Migrant workers and advocacy groups will be able to write letters and/or delegate.

As well, a similar motion is being planned for Niagara Regional Council by Councilor Laura Ip.
Meanwhile, Niagara Regional Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision, and anyone with information is asked to call 905-688-4111 ext. 1009472.
