Reptilia application off tonight's agenda
St. Catharines mayor Walter Sendzik tweeting out this morning, "Issue has been pulled from the council agenda by the owner. (Again)"
Reptilia, with locations in Vaugh and Whitby, had applied to move into the former IKEA outlet at the Fairview Mall.
The application requires council to change some of its bylaws that prohibit some of the venomous animals that would be kept at the site.
City staff are recommending the application be approved despite opposition from several animal welfare organizations including Niagara Action for Animals, Zoocheck Inc., and the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society because of public safety concerns.
Reptilia says over three-quarters of its animals are rescues.
