City of St. Catharines and Niagara region report wastewater systems were working, flooding due to extreme amount of water
The City of St. Catharines says there's nothing wrong with the sewer or infrastructure system following Monday's storm.
The flooding was predominately the result of extraordinary volume and intensity of rain that flooded many basements.
The city has looked through its sewer system, and found nothing, and the Niagara Region indicating water and wastewater infrastructure is working normally.
The city adds sewers are designed to established engineering standards, however, no drainage system can be designed to eliminate flood risk under all conditions.
Furthermore, much infrastructure was designed based on historical weather patterns and standards that did not anticipate the type of weather from this week.
The city will continue to make investment on systems, made annually based on asset condition, risk, community need, and resources.
