The 19 year old died helping senior being harassed outside Hamilton convenience store
Sentencing begins today for the two Hamilton paramedics found guilty for their role in the death of the Brock University student.
Yosif Al-Hasnawi was shot outside a Hamilton convenience store in 2017 while coming to the aid of an elderly man being harassed by two younger men.
The two paramedics, 55 year old Steven Snively and 32 year old Christopher Marchant were found guilty of failing to provide the necessaries of life to Al-Hasnawi after failing to recognize he had been shot with a handgun, thinking instead it was a less serious wound from a BB gun.
The victim was not taken to hospital until 23 minutes after paramedics arrived on scene.
He died shortly after in hospital from internal bleeding.
Dale King, who shot Al-Hasnawi, was acquitted last year of second-degree murder.
That decision is now under appeal.
