Search For Unmarked Graves at Former Brantford Residential School Underway

A search for unmarked graves at a former residential school in Brantford has started.

The Survivor's Secretariat is looking into the deaths of children who died while attending the former Mohawk Institute.

The agency says they plan to cover about 500 acres of the lands associated with the school, using ground penetrating radar.

The school was operational from 1828 to 1970, making it the longest operational residential school in the country.

In May, a First Nation in Kamloops, B.C., used ground penetrative radar to find the remains of over 200 Indigneous children in unmarked graves at a former residential school.
