The plan is to bring the region's CAO and city CAOs together, another councillor clarifies privatizing water
The latest on Niagara governance reform... the region's Chief Administrative Officer, Ron Tripp, will meet with the local city and town's CAOs to discuss next steps.
Council approved Mayor Wayne Redekop's idea, the majority insisting on consultation, collaboration, and evidence based approach.
Redekop added they'll adjust once they get the CAO's information. "I'm not really interested in telling municipalities how big their councils should be, I don't think that's my role, others may disagree. In terms of governance, we've talked before about a services review during a budget meeting, this would be included in that."
He says he understands regional councillors want included, but added it's the same for city or town councillors.
Councillor Terry Ugulini was all in, but added one clarification. "At no time did anybody speak of privatizing water or wastewater, and if you look at any coorespondence related to that it was always public. So, I take offence to the word privatization, because it was never mentioned."
Councillor Wayne Olson voted against, saying this still monopolizes power in the hands of a few unelected officials.
