Two protests are being held here in Niagara
Province-wide protests against the privatization of hospitals are scheduled for tomorrow, including two right here in the Niagara Region. The concern is that having private hospitals in the mix will lead to inferior public healthcare attention.
Tomorrow's multi-city protest event is being organized by the Ontario Health Coalition and local community partners.
Helen Hamilton is with the advocacy group Hope 4 Our Hospital, looking to save urgent care in Fort Erie. She says all levels of government need to listen to the concerns of residents throughout the province. Hamilton says Port Colborne is in the same situation as Fort Erie, with urgent care slated to be gone by 2028 when the new Niagara South hospital opens.
Local protests will be held at the entrance to the Pen Centre in St. Catharines at 11am and also at 1pm at 67 Clarence St. in Port Colborne.
