New modelling from the provincial government indicates that there could be another spike in infections due to contagious strains.
This news comes as Ontario begins to move the province back into the colour-coded framework in order to re-open various part of the economy.
Experts say that public health measures such as the stay-at home order are helping to reduce case and hospitalization numbers in teh province.
However, they warn that the strain that originated in the UK is continuing to spread across Ontario.
The experts expressed concerns about the re-opening of the province, saying that the lifting of measures could result in more variant cases.
Their worst case scenario indicates that the province could see over 16,000 cases of the variant by late March.
In the best case scenario, Ontario would see up to 2000 cases.
