Highland Ridge in Smithville is getting up to $1.7 million to expand meat processing capacity
A local business is getting some help from the province.
The Ontario government is investing $1.7 million in Highland Ridge in Smithville.
The money will be used to construct a new facility in West Lincoln, as well as new meat processing equipment including slicers, scales, metal detectors, smokehouse, grinders and mixers.
The province is investing $25 million in fifteen projects to expand food-processing capacity in Ontario.
"As a leading meat processor in Southern Ontario, Highland Ridge is a model of innovation and economic growth in our region," said Sam Oosterhoff, MPP for Niagara West.
"I congratulate the de Jonge family and the hardworking team at Highland Ridge as they expand their growing operation in Smithville."
The investment is being made through the Strategic Agri-Food Processing Fund.
