Province Investing Against Invasive Species

The $2-million will help the Niagara region

The Niagara Region has been included in a plan by the provincial government to stop invasive species from harming area forests and waterways.

Niagara West MPP Sam Oosterhoff is welcoming $2-million across the province, locally for the Invasive Species Centre to support a Lake Ontario Surveillance Project.

The government says this will help against spotted lanternfly, beech leaf disease, the oak wilt, and... elm zigzag sawfly.

The investment not only protects the natural environment, but supports local grape and wine industry, and green spaces.

The government also says invasive species are the 2nd greatest threat to biodiversity worldwide, and impact swimming, boating, hiking, and even pose a risk to human health.
