Thorold requested criminalization of destruction of Canadian flag
Another Niagara city getting behind Thorold's plan to ask the federal government to criminalize desecration of the Canadian flag.
Citing the seriousness of this, Port Colborne Councillor Ron Bodnar suggested stronger wording than simply endorsing Thorold's plan.
Mayor Bill Steele noted, though, it'll still get to the right people. "It does go to the Office of the Prime Minister, the Office of the Member of Parliament for Niagara Centre, Regional Municipality of Niagara, and all lower tier municipalies. We could take the same thing and do it here, but they've already invented the wheel."
The request is that Canada's Criminal Code be adjusted.
Within a month ago, the City of Thorold passed a motion asking the federal government amend the Criminal Code of Canada to criminalize destruction of the flag, something some councillors were surprised it needed to be done, thinking it was already law.
