Sometimes OPP tweet drivers clocked at over 200kms, but not so much in Niagara
Police forces across Ontario, including Toronto, are preparing greater action against stunt driving, especially with the number of cases tweeted by OPP.
However, Niagara police say it is not a common occurrance they come across.
Constable Barry Ravenek tells us they do lay the charge from time to time. "I can tell you so far this year, between January 1st and today, our officers have laid the charge 37 times. By comparison, between the same date range in 2022, our officers have laid that charge 33 times."
The constable adds conviction of speeding over 150kms an hour could mean a $10,000 fine and 6 demerit points.
"Some examples would be travelling 50kms over the limit when you're in an 80km zone, or 40kms over the limit when you're in a 100km zone. And other examples include when you're squealing your tires and trying to lay some rubber," he says.
