The town is introducing a new bylaw after complaints from residents.
Town of Pelham Council passed the Odorous Industries Nuisance bylaw last week.
Complaints from residents about near-by Cannabis operations prompted the need to find a solution.
Mayor Marvin Junkin says the Cannabis Control Committee and council has put in a great deal of work on the bylaw we’ve adopted.
He says the bylaw will address the major concerns of our residents when it comes to odour in the community.
The bylaw states that no person shall operate an odorous industrial facility that causes an negative effect or public inconvenience, except in accordance with the provisions of the bylaw.
Owners and operators will need to provide all licenses and registrations for inspection.
Fines ranging from $500 to $50,000 for a first-time offence.
The bylaw will go into effect in about three months.
