Joel Quenneville expresses deep regret and contrition
Joel Quenneville, head coach of the Florida Panthers, has resigned following allegations of sexual abuse aimed at his former assistant coach Brad Aldrich when the pair were with the Chicago Blackhawks.
Blackhawks player Kyle Beach says Aldrich sexually assaulted him during the 2010 Stanley Cup playoffs, and the team's management and coaching staff did nothing about it.
Quenneville announced his exit from the Panthers' bench after meeting with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman yesterday.
In a statement released to T-S-N, he sas his resignation comes ``with deep regret and contrition".
He has also expressed his sorrow for the pain Beach has suffered.
Quenneville promises to educate himself on ''ensuring hockey spaces are safe for everyone.''
