Officials say most of the 107 fatalities on OPP-patrolled roads so far this year due to carelessness.
The OPP is encouraging drivers to exercise caution behind the wheel.
In a release, the agency says the majority of the 107 fatalities on OPP-patrolled roads so far this year are due to poor and careless driving habits.
The last time the number of people killed in collisions reached the 100 mark by the second week of May was in 2012.
The OPP says fatalities linked to driver inattention is 79 percent higher than this time last year, while drug and alcohol related road fatalities have jumped by 36 percent.
Meanwhile, speed-related fatalities are at 27 so far this year, which officials say isn't far off from last year's mark.
As well, there have been 15 deaths relating to seat belts, which is a slight increase from last year.
As part of Canada Road Safety Week, which is May 17th - 23rd, the OPP will conduct enforcement/education around behaviors such as distracted driving, speeding, impaired driving, and other risky behaviors.
So far this year, the OPP has responded to to 88 fatal crashes.
