Colleges and faculty union agree to enter binding interest arbitration.
Niagara College staff will not be on the picket lines today.
Ontario's public colleges and the union representing faculty members have managed to avert a strike.
Just before the midnight strike deadline, the College Employer Council and Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) announced the parties have agreed to enter binding interest arbitration.
This would allow a neutral third party to find a compromise on outstanding issues.
The two parties say as a result, the strike that was supposed to start today has been called off, and all work to rule activities will conclude.
The CEC represents the province's 24 publicly funded colleges, and the college faculty branch of OPSEU represents about 16,000 professors, instructors, librarians and counsellors.
