Victim lost money after receiving call claiming they had won a multimillion dollar prize.
One person is facing fraud charges following a joint investigation between Niagara Regional Police and the Caledon OPP detachment.
The NRP says earlier this year, the two police services received a call from a victim who claimed to have been scammed out of an unspecified amount of money.
The victim reported getting a phone call from an unknown suspect, claiming they had won a prize worth millions of dollars.
The suspect claimed a fee needed to be mailed in, in order for the money to be claimed.
The money was sent to the address provided, and the victim became suspicious when they received another phone call from the suspect, requesting more funds.
Police have arrested 53 year old Donna Gordon-Allen of Caledon, who has been charged with Fraud Over $5,000.
Officers are reminding the public to never send money or banking details to anyone you don't know and trust.
You're also advised to be suspicious of lottery or sweepstakes requiring upfront fees or cheques that come with instructions to deposit and send a portion back.
