Police say this happens while someone is using an ATM, with criminals taking bank cards
Another warning from Niagara regional police of distraction thefts at bank machines.
Police say it usually happens when a suspect approaches someone at an ATM, claiming the victim has dropped a $5 bill on the ground nearby.
While the victim becomes distracted by that, another thief quickly switches the victim's bank card with a counterfeit or blank card.
The victim is not aware of the theft until it's too late.
