They say it was developed to alleviate pain, but isn't registered for medical use in Canada
A warning from Niagara regional police to be mindful of a certain type of drug thought to be fentanyl.
Back in December, police found a quantity of a substance believed to be fentanyl, so it was sent to Health Canada's Drug Analysis service.
Police were told a substance called Benzimidazole was in the fentanyl, which is a controlled substance in Canada, initially developed to alleviate pain.
However, police say this drug was not approved for medical use in Canada.
It causes euphoria, leading to misuse and addiction, and overdosing can be fatal.
