They say criminals use them to commit other crime, plates stolen in Niagara have shown up in Hamilton and GTA
A warning from Niagara regional police that licence plates are being stolen off vehicles.
They say since late December, there have been over ten thefts, the majority taking place in West Niagara.
Thieves target vehicles parked in car dealerships and household driveways, and in some cases, the plate is switched with a paper or 3-D printed similar plate.
Police add criminals target plates of the same colour, make, and model vehicle, which are then used to commit other crimes.
In many cases, the switch is not noticed by a vehicle owner for weeks.
