Police Chief revealed new system for records check as revenue generator
Niagara Regional police are pointing to overtime hours for its current yearly $300,000 deficit.
During a recent police services board meeting, member Henry D'Angela asked the police chief about extra time put in by administrative staff.
"I know part of that has to do with police checks, if I'm not mistaken. With the police checks, are we going for full cost recovery, of what it costs for that department to operate?"
Chief Bryan MacCulloch revealed they are looking at a finger print based system for record checks. "Actually turn out to be a revenue generator for the board, and for the service, as opposed to costs incurred over and above the fees that are charged."
The Chief referred to the fingerprint system when asked about possibly increasing fees to recover the deficit.
The board also noted overtime hours have been put in by uniformed officers.
