Niagara's Public Works Committee approves the use of photo radar in all community safety zones in the region.
Photo radar is one step closer to becoming a reality in Niagara.
The Region's Public Works Committee has voted in favour of placing photo radar in each of the region's community safety zones.
The plan still has to be approved by council.
The cameras would look for vehicles that are speeding in the zones, which are all located near schools.
Footage will be sent to a processing centre to determine if tickets will be handed out.
If passed, the project would cost about $500,000.
Niagara's community safety zones are listed below.
- Alexander Kuska school in Welland.
- Blessed Trinity Secondary School in Grimsby.
- Crossroads school, and St. David’s school in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
- DSBN Academy and St. Ann Catholic school in St. Catharines.

- John Calvin school, and Smithville District Christian High School in West Lincoln.
