This is from the Ontario government's plan to help 102 municipalities improve local transit
Niagara Transit is to benefit from the provincial gas tax.
Niagara West MPP Sam Oosterhoff tells us the province is handing in excess of $6.8-million to the service, to be used to expand service hours, routes, buy new vehicles and improve accessibility.
St. Catharines Mayor Mat Siscoe says the provincial gas tax funding continues to be the best tool in which to invest in Niagara transit services, and expand those services that residents have made clear they want.
The Ontario government is investing about $380-million to help 102 municipalities improve local transit through the gas tax.
This year's tax includes a one time additional $3-million.
