Off-duty police officer facing charges after altercation
A Niagara Regional Police officer has been charged with assault.
On May 20th, police were made aware of allegations involving the officer, after a 911 call from a business in Welland.
Police say when they arrived, they found an off-duty officer had been involved in an altercation, and he was taken to hospital, where he was treated and released.
Nobody else was injured.
Earlier today, Constable Grant Yantha was arrested and charged with two counts of assault.
He has been released on a Form 10 Undertaking, and will appear in court on August 25th.
Yantha has been a member of the force for a year, and has been suspended with pay.
