The police service is reminding drivers and cyclists to be mindful of crossing guards
Niagara Regional Police officers are celebrating crossing guards.
This week is School Crossing Guard Appreciation Week in Ontario.
Police are reminding drivers and cyclists to do the following:
- Stop when a Crossing Guard raises his or her stop sign.
- Take notice when a Crossing Guard is on duty and slow down when approaching school zones.
- Obey the law. Remain stopped until all children and the Crossing Guard have exited the roadway.
- Proceed with caution and obey the speed limit at all times.
Under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act, all vehicles and cyclists are required to stop and wait until all pedestrians, including the crossing guard, have cleared the entire roadway.
