Lord Mayor says it's different in the country, than city
In Niagara on the Lake, the Lord Mayor says the flooding is something homeowners and businesses have not seen in a lifetime.
Gary Zalepa tells us they're prioritizing which areas to clean, and working with the provincial government.
However, he adds what happened in the country is different than the city. "We have, for example, one property owner on 20 acres, who is impacted. Whereas, if you take 20 acres in northern St. Catharines, and you've got hundreds of people impacted."
Grape growers cannot wait for this water to drain quick enough.
He says it's far too early to tell how the vines are handling the water. "We're very fortunate, in that we have some very sophisticated operators, with some very expansive supply chains, and they're well invested. I think there's going to be some financial impact to all businesses."
He says he met with the provincial housing and agriculture ministers last week after the first flood.
