Dr. Johan Viljoen joined in 1993
Niagara Health's Chief of Staff and Executive Vice-President of Medical Affairs is retiring.
Dr. Johan Viljoen has spent about 30 years with Niagara Health, and first joined as a physician in 1993.
"As a member of the executive team, Johan contributed to shaping our strategic priorities, led our team of physicians through the pandemic and represented Niagara Health on numerous regional committees. He also served as a vocal champion for Niagara residents and patients," says Marylee O’Neill, Chair, Niagara Health Board of Directors. "We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to a great leader, colleague and mentor."
During his tenure, he helped with initiatives such as the creation of the Niagara Health Knowledge Institute.
Dr. Satish Chawla, Chief of Laboratory Medicine, will serve as interim Chief of Staff and Executive Vice-President of Medical Affairs.
Niagara Health says a governance review is underway to inform next steps in the recruitment process.
