Hamilton police made the arrest after an alleged romance scam
Hamilton police putting a stop to what appears to be repeated fraud, after charging a Niagara Falls woman.
They started investigating last December, learning a 75-year old Hamilton man met the woman the previous March.
Over the coming months, police say she convinced him to give roughly $20,000, claiming she needed it to cover her parents' funeral expenses.
She assured him it would be paid back.
Police arrested 58-year old Vicky Medalla last week, charged with fraud over $5,000.
Police also say at the time of arrest, she was on release for similar offences in Kitchener and Hamilton, and police opposed bail.
There could be other victims.
