The mayor believes the province has already decided on its path
The City of Niagara Falls is supporting a provincial review of Niagara regional government, the latest being an unelected chair and 12 mayors.
Councillor Lori Lococo's motion passed last night, that includes the province fund the cost of reviews.
Mayor Jim Diodati admitted the motion just shows the Ontario government the city has an opinion. "We're a product of the province. I think they've already decided on a path they're on, and they've got resolutions from so many councils right now, I think if anything it shows we're just confused, we don't all agree."
He says the one thing everyone agrees with is change is needed.
Councillor Lococo added Fort Erie is doing a similar motion. "Every single time we come to council, things change in between then and now, I think there's going to be another announcement this week. So, my motion is on the table to look at another governance review, I think it's a good idea to see where we are and what we need to do."
Councillor Lococo's motion included making sure there is public input into any review.
