City councillor says it'll cost less than $100,000 for the equipment, to keep asphalt hot
A Niagara Falls city councillor has presented a possibility on how to deal with a daily nuisance for all drivers at this time of year... potholes.
Tony Baldinelli is asking city staff to look into a mini hot box heater, and asphalt plant, since hot asphalt is much better for fixing potholes.
He adds they've been forced to use cold patch, which is very temporary. "The biggest challenge to using asphalt is keeping it hot. If we do that, and we're able to go all year round in fixing roads, that would add another 2-years on the life of a pothole."
He says the cost of a box heater is under $100,000, even $75,000.
"So, therefore the motion is that staff research and precure its own hot box heater, and mini asphalt plant and portable hot boxes for year round pothole repair and road maintenance in the City of Niagara Falls, and that they report back by the July council meeting."
Potholes are one of the top complaints any city councillor hears about from people.
