Karen Lutz-Graul will become the first female Deputy Chief of Niagara EMS.
She will shadow Deputy Chief Roger Mayo over the next couple of months leading up to his retirement at the end of September.
Lutz-Graul has been with Niagara EMS ever since its inception in 2000.
She became the Superintendent of Quality Assurance and Training in 2009 before she was promoted to Commander of System Performance six years later.
She will be working closely Chief Kevin Smith and Deputy Chief Rick Ferron.
