NDP promising minimum of $25 per hour for registered early childhood educators if elected.
NDP Leader Andrea Horwath says if elected, the NDP will ensure all registered early childhood educators will receive $25 per hour.
She also says all other child care program staff will get a minimum wage of $20 per hour.
“Child care workers teach and protect our littlest ones," Horwath notes. "We trust them with our babies’ lives. Yet many of these professionals — who are predominantly women — are working two or three jobs to make ends meet. Lots of them are living without benefits. And they’re leaving the profession in droves."
Horwath notes if elected premier, the party will work with unions and child care advocated to create a Workforce Strategy, leading to a wage grid and work standards such as benefits, pensions and support for child care workers.
While a price tag for the promises wasn't given, Horwath says the NDP will unveil a fully costed program.
