The union said in Niagara Falls this morning provincial funding plans to 2032 are insufficient
Yet another plea by an Ontario hospital union for increased government funding in Niagara.
President of the Council of Hospital Unions Michael Hurley was in Niagara Falls this morning, saying this area used to have a number of vibrant hospitals with emergency rooms humming.
But he notes workers are leaving, such as one nurse who left for a job paying less. "But, she has a day job, and has weekends off. For her, the quality of life, no stress, no violent environment, and no sadness going home at night, because she feels she has failed her patients, which is common."
He adds every government is to blame going back to Bob Rae's NDP government.
He says the Ford government is too focused on private care, which should concern everyone.
"Small town Ontario, intercity Ontario... we are not well off. This kind of differential access on the basis of income is exactly the reason why medicare was introduced."
He points out recent investments in Niagara hospitals, emergency rooms and for paramedics are not enough.
