Ontario government spending $8-million in Port Colborne
More provincial money to be pumped into shipbuilding, and that includes in Niagara.
Premier Doug Ford was in St. Catharines this morning, announcing over $90-million to increase shipbuilding in Ontario, to meet the growing demand for Ontario made ships, and help meet Canada's National Shipbuilding Strategy.
The government says $11-million is for Ontario Shipyards, which includes $8-million for Allied Marine and Industrial in Port Colborne.
Some of that money is also going to yards in Kingston and Parry Sound.
The government adds the money is to help the long term strategy for the Royal Canadian Navy, the coast guard and Transport Canada.
President of Ontario Shipyards Shaun Padulo says this will help training and recruitment at the Hamilton docks, laying the foundation for future work at the Port Weller Dry Docks in St. Catharines.
The government also says the GDP of the Great Lakes is roughly $7.5-trillion, so, if it were a country, it would be the 3rd largest economy in the world.
