Roughly 200 people met to discuss better patient care and research
Roughly 200 medical researchers and health care professionals from Niagara, Hamilton and Toronto gathering yesterday to brainstorm ways to improve patient care and research.
Dr. Jennifer Tsang says during the last fiscal year, there were 58 multi-clinical trials at Niagara Health.
She notes the different topics or areas of care they focus on. "In the areas of cardiology, how to manage heart attacks better. We have trials in the stroke area, we have infection trials, how to treat pneumonia better, how to treat sepsis better."
This gathering was at Niagara College, but she also heads up national efforts to expand.
"The reason why that is important is that we are bringing innovative therapy, the access for innovative therapy to our patients, so they no longer have to travel to Toronto or Hamilton."
They also talked about improved communication between hospitals for better patient care.
