They want change to reflect made in Niagara solutions, and clarity on Strong Chair power
A number of Niagara mayors have mixed reviews of the in-coming regional government change.
This from Grimsby, Port Colborne, West Lincoln, Pelham, Thorold, Wainfleet and Niagara on the Lake, who welcome it, as long as it reflects made in Niagara principles.
However, they're concerned with Strong Chair power, leading a council of 12 elected mayors, and over riding their decisions... they want clarity on that.
They've reminded the provincial government of plans to reduce some council sizes, without direction from Ontario.
On weighted voting, there must be balanced representation by population, and be fair for all municipalities.
Lord Mayor Gary Zalepa says details matter, and they'll be engaged every step of the way to ensure that.
The group of mayors also pledges to advocate for reform that is locally led and delivers for taxpayers.
