The Mayor of Pelham is being reprimanded and his pay will be suspended for 45 days.
Town Council voted in favour of the penalties against Mayor Marvin Junkin last night.
This comes after the Ontario Ombudsman and an integrity commissioner determined, that he violated the town’s Code of Conduct.
This is in relation to a $25,000 donation from a cannabis producer.
Junkin sent an e-mail to his colleagues back in January which stated that the matter could not be discussed in-camera because the discussion does not fit the criteria.
He also stated that he and CAO David Cribbs decided that “perhaps we really wouldn’t want to discuss this in open session, so just this once we would make a decision by e-mail, outside of council.”
Junkin has called the accusations against him “trivial.”
