He won handily over his competition
The winner of the federal Liberal leadership race has taken the top prize with 86% of the vote.
Mark Carney beat Chrystia Freeland, who came in a distant second, Karina Gould was third and Frank Baylis last.
Carney used his victory speech to congratulate Justin Trudeau for his leadership.
He then turned to someone who he says is trying to weaken Canada's economy. "Donald Trump... and Donald Trump, as we know, as the Prime Minister just said, has put unjustified tariffs on what we sell, what we make, and how we make a living."
He also said he would eliminate the carbon tax, and took shots a Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre, who has been calling for the tax to be eliminated long before. "Pierre Poilievre just doesn't get it. He is the type of life long politician, and I've seen this type around the world, who worships at the alter of free market despite never having made a payroll."
It's not clear when he is sworn in as prime minister.
