St. Catharines MPP says corporate interests shouldn't interfere
St. Catharines NDP MPP is applauding a move by Manulife Insurance to back away from a deal with Loblaw Company in relation to where patients get medication.
Jennie Stevens wrote a letter to Ontario's health minister recently calling for action after the deal would allow insurance to only cover 260 types of medications if they were dispensed at Loblaw owned pharmacies.
She stated this would impact local, smaller pharmacies, and the choice people have.
Manulife is bowing out of the deal after the public pressure.
Stevens added this is to make sure corporate interest doesn't interfere with getting health care, and it's a victory for everyday people.
