NRP say victim was given a fraudulent cheque to buy equipment from company
Niagara regional police have put a stop to a fake online job posting.
Back in January, they began investigating a certain site, and found a victim was quickly offered a job online, then asked to buy computer equipment using money supplied by the company.
Police say the victim received a digital cheque, but it turns out that cheque was fraud, and the victim was asked to return $2,000 by e-transfer.
The victim, trusting the process, finished the e-transfer, only to later learn from the bank the cheque was fraud.
Police tracked the suspect down, and today they arrested 24-year old Sunday Kehinde of St. Catharines, he has a bail hearing tomorrow.
