Psychiatric evaluation suggests suspect is mentally able to stand trial
The man accused of crashing a bus into a Quebec daycare and killing two children has been deemed fit to stand trial.
Pierre Ny-St. Amand was in a Laval, Quebec courtoom today.
His lawyer told the court that a psychiatric assessment found the accused to be fit to participate in the case.
Defense lawyer Julien L'Esperance Hudon also requested an evaluation of his client's criminal responsibility today, to determine if the suspect was suffering from a mental disorder at the time of the incident.
The request was granted.
The 51 year old bus driver was arrested on February 8th, after a bus he was driving collided into a daycare.
Two four-year-olds were killed, and six other children were injured.
The suspect will return to court on March 28th.
St. Amand has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and seven other charges, including attempted murder and aggravated assault.
