Wayne Gates says the cost of baby formula is rising sharply
Niagara Falls MPP Wayne Gates is asking the province to address the rising cost of baby formula.
At Queen's Park today, Gates said over the last few months, the cost of formula has risen by five to ten dollars a month.
He says with many families struggling to keep up with the increased cost of living, the Ford government needs to address the issue.
"Families across Ontario are struggling with the high cost of living," said Gates. "A mom in Niagara contacted my office about the price of formula going up by 40 percent in the last three months. This is a product that is essential for many families with babies."
Premier Doug Ford responded by saying the higher price are due to the rising cost of gas, and the NDP is in favour of the carbon tax.
After a massive recall, Canada has been dealing with a shortage of baby formula.
Suppliers say prices have jumped for a variety of reasons, including supply chain issues and labour shortages.
