The NRP say there's no evidence this has reduced this crime since 2014
The names of people charged with impaired driving in the Niagara region will no longer be published, and released to the media.
The NRPS says it's been doing this for over 10-years, in an attempt to act as a deterrent.
However, after consulting with other police forces province-wide, it was found other forces had stopped doing this, for similar reasons.
Police say there is no evidence to support the claim that publishing the names of anyone charged acts to reduce impaired driving.
During its meeting yesterday, the police board saw there were 474 impaired by alcohol charges in 2014, last year there were 464, and 62 impaired by drugs.
Police also say instead they'll focus more on education of the dangers of impaired driving, and continued enforcement.
While telling the public about a chronic offender, sometimes people with the same name can lead to problems for an innocent person.
