Niagara Health Coalition hosted meeting in Port Colborne, encouraged everyone to keep fighting for centres in a battle that's been going for years
The Niagara Health Coalition is encouraging everyone not to give up in the fight to keep the Urgent Care Centres in Port Colborne and Fort Erie open.
Sue Hotte is with the Coalition, and says roughly 100 people showed up to a town hall in Port Colborne last night, with many ideas and thoughts shared.
She says this battle has been going on for 30 years. "A lot of support from the communities, residents getting on board, sending letters... all the rallies that we do, all the petitions, writing letters, showing up at the legislature... it works."
Niagara Health plans to close the centres in 2028, using Niagara Falls, Welland and Marotta hospitals in a 3-hospital system.
Hotte says some people suggested buying the centre, or rebuilding it.
They also prefer the hospital provide services, and not a private clinic. "One person said 'I'm a farmer, if I need stitches in my hand right now I can go to the urgent care, and get it fixed. It's not 24/7, but it's open 7 days a week."
