Facial approximation of deceased will not be made public
In lieu of new information, Niagara Regional Police have cancelled this morning's virtual media conference where they had planned to release a facial sketch of unidentified human remains found in 2019.
Police say the remains found at the Sir Adam Beck Generating Station were sent to the Ontario Centre of Forensic Sciences, where they were examined by a forensic anthropologist and a human remains analyst.
Detective Constable Duncan Way, a forensic artist with the OPP, then produced a facial sketch of the deceased.
The facial approximation was shared with other jurisdictions.
As a result, police say the identify of the deceased was confirmed through the use of dental records and linked to an open missing person investigation with the Hamilton Police Service.
Next of kin has been notified and at the request of family members, no further information will be provided.
