Report shows it grew substantially at Niagara Health over a 2-year period
Staggering financial health news for Niagara Health, or any other health care system in Ontario.
A report from the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives shows most hospitals have increasing deficits, and Niagara Health's was at $20-million in 2024, two years earlier it was $2.47-million.
Report author Andrew Longhurst explains where the money has gone. "As you have greater demands on health care, as the population grows and ages, chronic disease prevalence increases, you are seeing the effects of that in terms of hospitals not having the resources."
In spite of the government saying it has invested, he says Ontario ranks last in the country.
