Police say over $3 million made from the sale of illegal cannabis laundered at casinos in the GTA and Niagara.
Hamilton-Niagara RCMP have arrested five people in connection to a drug trafficking and money laundering investigation.
The investigation began in 2017 when RCMP began gathering information about a potential money laundering scheme operating through casinos in the GTA and Niagara.
Police discovered that over $3 million was laundered from the illegal sale of over 8,000 pounds of cannabis.
Search warrants were conducted on five homes and six marijuana grow operations.
Officials say just under 30,000 cannabis plants and over $1 million was seized by investigators.
Detectives also discovered more than 7,900 pounds of dried cannabis.
The Alcohol & Gaming Commission of Ontario has responded, saying it will conduct a regulatory review of its casinos.
Facing charges are Zu When Chang, Lin Li, Bo Hai Chen, En Quan Chen and Jian Hua Tao.
