Over the past year, some local food banks have seen a 70 percent increase in demand.
"Two of the basic necessities of life are food and shelter, and people in our region are in need of both," said Mark Carl, CEO Habitat Niagara. "The effects of COVID-19 have caused a surge in demand for emergency food support and these agencies have had to meet increasing demand on their services, we’re hoping in some small way that we can help."
Last year, the promotion was held over a three day period, and 283 pounds of non-perishable food items were collected.
