Mike Schreiner says public inquiry only way to get answers public wants
Green Party Leader Mike Schreiner says a full public inquiry should be conducted over the government's decision to remove protected Greenbelt land to build more housing.
Earlier this month, Auditor General Bonnie Lysyk released a scathing report that found developers who owned 15 sites of land removed from the area stand to see their property values rise by about $8.3 billion.
It also suggests that 92 percent of the developers who purchased land that was removed had access to Housing Minister Chief of Staff Ryan Amato at an industry event.
Schreiner says Ontarians deserve answers, and a public inquiry is the only way to get them.
"People want transparency, they want accountability, and they want to know the truth. And the only way to get that level of transparency and accountability is through an independent public inquiry."
Premier Doug Ford has said he plans to implement 14 out of 15 suggestions in the report, though his office has previously shot down the idea of a public inquiry.
