Provincial government handing the money over to 10 schools, to help with addiction services gaps
Niagara College will receive $868,625 over two years for mental health and addiction services for students.
The provincial government says the school is one of 10 postsecondary schools to receive money for such services in underserved communities.
The money will address extensive primary care and addiction services gaps, and offer support for Indigenous students, through partnership with Community Addictions Services of Niagara.
The work is to start this winter, intended to reduce wait times and increase access to doctors on campus, and help those with complex mental health needs.
Dr. Karen Csoli, Director of Health, Wellness and Accessibility Services, says they look forward to addressing the need for preventative complex care intervention and the limitations of western medicine to support students.
